Last Saturday I was lucky enough to be invited to join the Creative Women's Circle market stall, along with Phoebe, Kirsty and Emily at Laneway Festival in Melbourne!

We had such a blast, and I think the collaborative stall ended up looking great!

It was quite warm so we all had a little time out late in the afternoon

I designed a new collection which was launched on the day, it went down like a Calypo in 35 degree heat!

So I'm in the process of replenishing my stock, so stay tuned for that! While there are a few little pieces available on my Etsy store :)

The Festival Collection

So I've really missed my days designing for So Little Time Co.
(they were featured on Finders Keepers yesterday so check that one out too!)

When I was asked to participate in Laneway Festival this coming weekend I thought it was the perfect opportunity to do a little wooden jewelery collection, to get my fix. Let's face it, people don't really want to buy cushions at a festival do they?

So the festival collection is a collection of smaller wares including organic cotton totes, (including some new additions!) some summer linen scarfs AND some brand new spanking jewelery bits made from 100% renewable bamboo, all designed and lovingly assembled by me in Melbourne!

I'm super pumped for this one, and here is a little peek!

Road trip!

I just got back from a few days away on the road, such good times!

There was lots of lazing about

a fair bit of bird chasing

we spent time watching the world float by

we went for lots of lovely walks

and after it was all over some of us needed a very big sleep!

I on the other hand, am back and ready to tackle 2012!
I've got out new festival collection for Pom in production at the moment so I'm super busy
this week and absolutely covered in ink!

This year's Harvest Xmas market was an absolute blast! There were people coming in and out all day long, and it was such a great atmosphere, check out a few pictures below

Today the new issue of Frankie magazine came out, I've been eagerly awaiting it's arrival at my local newsstand, as our cute little bunting tote was featured!
When Jo contacted me to request the bag I couldn't believe it! I'm truly chuffed to have my work featured in a magazine which I began idolising 6 years ago, in my first year at design school.

On the weekend I had a market stall at Craft Victoria's Christmas market, it was a great day!

Our new Eco Fragrance pillows were very well received! I like to refer to them as good looking moth balls, all of the contents are organically grown in Australia, and they make this amazing smell surround my stall!

It's been such a hectic yet exciting couple of weeks! I've been working on new products and a new set up for my Christmas markets, the first one is this Saturday you can find all of the details here or here! I'm absolutely loosing it over these new silk & linen cushion covers I've been working on! I'm not sure if I can put them up for sale I love them that much - I have however decided that a few will be available this Saturday at Craft Hatch :)

Well I have so much to do in such a short time, so If you don't hear from me before you'll know it's because I'm working hard to produce some new and exciting bits for Christmas!

CWC book launch

Tonight I went along to the launch of the Creative Women's Circle's new book, written by the lovely Tess Mcabe.
It was such a wonderful evening full of great conversations and catchups with some very talented creative women!

If you haven't heard of or attended a CWC event yet, I highly recommend it, I always leave the talks feeling really inspired and ready to do lots of work!

I will be stocking "Conversations with Creative Women" at my Craft Hatch stall on December 10th, as well as launching some great new products! So please be sure to pop down and check it out :)

DIY Japanese dumplings

If you're a reader of this blog you will know I love to make things! Whether it's sewing, printing, or even cooking it doesn't matter!

I wanted to share with you how I make Gyoza - A Japanese style dumpling
They're so delicious, and everybody LOVES it when I make them, they don't last long!

So I don't tend to measure anything when I cook, I'm more of a throw it in kind of girl, I have attempted to do some rough quantities for the purpose of this post, but I recommend following your nose - just do what you think - it will be fine!

You will need:
- 400-500gm of chicken mince (or pork if you prefer)
- dumpling pastries (from your Asian grocer in the fridge section)
- a ginger root
- a pack of shitake mushrooms
- a bunch of chives
- salt and pepper to taste
- white vinegar

Chop up the chives, mushrooms and most of the ginger root, (just save a piece approximately 2cm square for later) and mix them in with the raw chicken mince, add salt and pepper if you wish.

Preparation:
1. spoon a small amount of the raw meat mixture into the centre of a dumpling pastry
2. brush milk around the edge of the pastry
3. fold pastry in half - enclosing the meat mixture
4. pinch pastry together at one end
5. working your way from one side to the other, make small folds pinching the pastry edges together
6. finish folding your pastry

Repeat these steps until you've used up all of your mixture (around 60 dumplings)
Now for the cooking!
1. Heat oil in the pan
2. Once pan is really hot, place dumplings in the pan flat side down
3. Cook until bottoms are golden brown
4. Pour hot water into the pan
5. Quickly place lid (with vent open) on pan to steam dumplings
6. After 3-4 minutes they're ready to serve!

The dipping sauce:
chop up the small amount of ginger left aside and soak it in a small cup of white vinegar.

Enjoy!

Just under a year ago, I left work and entered a tiny Melbourne laneway. After 90 days of not seeing my boy, he was there, waiting, standing under a blue sky in the pouring rain. It was like a scene out of a love film, I wish there was a photo of that moment.

Monolog Launch

Last night Indie from Monolog officially launched her range of organic clothing

The set up was amazing and had such a great atmosphere

I was lucky enough to win a door prize! A lovely limited edition furoshiki cloth, hand printed by Indie herself!

It's not often you win anything so it was SUPER exciting, I'll put up some day time pics of it in action very soon! If you would like to learn how to make one Indie is running a workshop at the Harvest workroom, so be sure to check that one out!

Not only was it draped over the main walk way, It continued down hallways and in little hiding holes!

Knit wits

Tonight I went along to a Nikki Gabriel knitting class with my mama at the Harvest Workroom, It was so much fun, I have actually struggled to put my project down so that I can type this post! hehe.

The night was made by the fact that we got to knit in this AMAZING hand screen printed tent decorated with pom poms, made by Nikki herself! Pompoms!!

One of the best things about Nikki's patterns is that they're progressive, so you can wear the garment for a while before you add the next part! I will be wearing the first piece of mine tomorrow as a scarf. My garment is actually shaping up quite quickly and I can't wait to wear it (the 25mm needles are helping!)

Now. . . it's time to get back to the knitting!

Doggie Dates

So A little while ago Tilda had a play date with Barkly.
Doggie dates are ace, there is always a lot of laughing involved!

This is my favorite - little monsters from the deep! (Tilda always has that paw up when she's ready to pounce!)

Needless to say TT and I spent a couple of hours removing sand and getting her dry after this wintery beach date!

This week has been SUPER exciting as I have been preparing for the launch of my textiles and accessories range Pom by Pomegranate at Craft Victoria's Craft Hatch next weekend. Melbourne City Library (Flinders Lane) June 11th between 11am & 4pm! There is still plenty to do but things are slowly coming together, If you're in Melbourne town be sure to stop by and say hello!

This week also marked my first sale on Etsy! HOORAY! The gorgeous Jacqui (pictured below) was my first customer and chose the Pompom Cluster Brooch, which looks perfect on her!

It's with great sadness that I announce the wearables I have designed for So Little Time Co. will no longer be produced. With My textiles line Pom by Pomegranate launching next month and my ideas and ambitions ever growing it was inevitable that one day I would have to prioritise.

Working along side Kirsty was always a laugh and an absolute joy! We have met so many people, learnt so much and had so much fun in the time we worked together to launch So Little Time Co. I will miss it very much but I know that this isn't the end for us. Please, don't get me wrong So Little Time Co. Will live on and is still going strong, Launching a new range this weekend, be sure to keep up to date with that on their facebook page. (I believe there is a giveaway on at the moment - so don't delay!)

What it does unfortunately mean is that it is the end for these little guys of mine - There is limited stock available AND once they're sold out - That's it! So if you've had your eye on one you had better snap it up quick smart!

For the Easter break I was lucky enough to be taken on a 4 day camping road trip! It was so much fun to get away, breathe in fresh air and just hang out with no agenda, We saw so much driving around 1500kms, here is a small snippet of what we saw :)

The real workspace

While it's lovely looking at beautifully styled studio shots surely they're just that, beautifully styled. Hours are spent cleaning, rearranging and adjusting the lighting to create the perfect shot. Am I wrong? It can't be what they look like all the time! well mine sure doesn't.

Which is why i'm relieved that UPPERCASE is calling for submissions of messy studio spaces for their next issue, hooray! I feel like my fabric and cotton covered carpet may be a real contender! while I do try and vacum it all up and keep it clean, when i'm working it always seems to end up like this!

Introducing Adventure Girl

Last weekend Adventure girl came out to play (that's me when I'm adventurous)

This time the mission was to watch Earth Hour.Little did I know how extreme the night would be. I won't explain the whole story but I will tell you that there was lots of climbing involved, and with a little help I managed to make it without plummeting to the ground, Phew! After my knees stopped wobbling with fear it was exciting to see the spectacular view.

That was what it looked like over the edge, nice and safe :)

She writes about absolutely everything sewing related, she has heaps of handy tips and even makes her own patterns. Speaking of which I'm super excited that I received mine in the mail today!

Not only is the packaging beautifully designed, so are the cuts of the clothes which they make!

Yesterday I went to Finders Keepers! Hooray :) The atmosphere was amazing, and I was absolutely loving the paper pyramid installation

Alex was there :)

It was great to find Ink and Spindle there

I got to chat to the lovely ladies at bespoke about getting a wedding suite printed for my brother, I can't wait to get going on that little project! I also bought them this cute engagement card :)

My purchase for the day was this little gem by the lovely Cat Rabbit!

Finders Keepers!

So much has been happening lately!

I've been working on the products for the launch of Pom by pomegranate, a little textiles range to make sure my little blog doesn't get lonely! I'm launching this winter which is super exciting, and there will be a few little goodies to keep you all warm and fuzzy, and of course a pom pom or two.

While I've been working hard, I'm starting to get distracted by Find ers Keepers which is fast approaching! It's on this Saturday and Sunday in Melbourne and I can't wait. I've been having a look through the designers who will be there and I am saving my pennies! There looks like there will be a few new labels that I haven't seen before which is super exciting! I love chatting to and seeing what other crafters are spending their nights making.

I especially can't wait to see these cute little ones by Okt - ober - dee,I might even splurge on one!

Sadly it has been getting quite wintery very early this year, the only thing that makes me happy about this premature wintery weather is making pom poms and crocheting. I'm very excited to see that I won't be the only one getting my pom on this winter!

My first 3 colour repeat!

Tonight I finished up my advanced course at the Harvest workroom, we all did a 3 colour repeat pattern and here is how mine turned out!

It started with a drawing

Then was the crazy intricate stencil cutting!

followed by choosing a colour pallette and mixing the inks

then at long last printing the first colour

then the second

and finally finishing it off with the third!

I've learnt so much over the past few weeks and I'm super happy with the result. I can't wait to get sewing and turn it into something!

coffee tiiimmee

Over the Summer, I got into Iced coffee, one night at home I got a little creative and made some affragatos, yum yum!

A good quality Vanilla bean ice-cream, is a must and i found that this one worked very well

Other than the ice-cream all you need is an expresso machine to make your coffee shots and away you go! They're very yummy

Diana the first roll

So i got back my first roll from my new Diana Mini, it was my first attempt at using a lomo or even a film camera in quite some time! Today I went to pick up my first film and when i got to the counter and they informed me that I would only need to pay $5.22 as they didn't have to print them all. I'll be honest I was a little worried. . .

So here is the best of the bunch:

I was having a bit of trouble figuring out how far to wind the film as it felt clunky. . . clearly!

There are some cool bikes cruising around Melbourne-town at the moment

Overall i'm pretty happy with the first attempt, and feel like i've learnt a lot! I've started my second roll and can't wait to get it processed too!

Up up and away Indigo

When I saw this beautiful indigo linen I just had to get it, and here is what I did with it

Today I had a printing sesh! I experimented with opaque ink for the first time and boy was it a challenge! I've ended up with a couple of good prints in the end which I'm very excited about and I will sew them up and they will be available on my Etsy store shortly! Take a sneak peak below!

So with each new year I tend to go a little organise crazy, and usually have a feng shui attack and throw out all unnecessary things lying around. It's such a great feeling and sunday was the day for me, I kicked so many goals organising my loft and turning it into a productive space, designing and sewing a top, got my terrariums started AND cut up some fabric ready to print on the weekend! eeep. I can't wait to show you what it is!

p.s the first film from my diana mini is being developed, eeep! I'm so excited to see what happens

Techni-coloured dreams

Lately I've had lomography on the mind! The results are just like my techni-coloured daydreams

I have given into the dreams and treated myself to a Diana mini! I can't wait to see the results, I'm half way through the film and am dying to know what's going on in there! I'm a little bit worried I have snapped the film in my eagerness to get started, but i guess i'll just have to keep shooting

Fryerstown fair

Last weekend we headed up to Fryerstown in the victorian goldfields. The town usually consists of only a closed school and a town hall. Their annual antiques fair however happens to be the largest in Australia! There was SO much to see I had a lot of trouble taking it all in! we saw so many weird and wonderful things though! check out the picture below

I really wanted to buy this vintage gum ball machine and make a terrarium in it, how cool would that be? unfortunately when i went back to get it, it had been snapped up! i wonder what they're doing with it . . .

we finished off the day with a picnic, the way all good days should end

So tomorrow is a mid week public holiday to celebrate Australia Day! Yay! I plan on having a very creative day, I want to sew a top from this fabric

Make cute terrariums in some vintage glue bottles, do some screen printing and have a BBQ with friends!

Sounds like I have a few too many plans to fit in to 24 hours but we will see how we go!

I can stich a rainbow

There has been so many fundraising initiatives pop up this week for the flood victims of QLD in Australia, Including Art 4 heart an art auction (unfortunately i was outbid early on in the emily beth prints, but at least the funds are rising!) Today I came across crochet a rainbow, which i have signed up for! It is a Sarah - London charity craft initiative Crochet a rainbow! Crafters from all around the world are crocheting and donating granny squares which will be turned into rugs to benefit those affected by the recent floods in Australia.
So far there are 138 of us and I hope the number will continue to grow! head here for more information on how to get involved

Weekend Trip

Summer Holidays were awesome i'll fill you in on what I got up to very soon.
In the meantime, i've been back at work for a week now and I was having a few holiday withdrawals! So we headed to Phillip Island for the weekend, we had such a good time and explored the entire island, driving from end to end and almost every look out / attraction along the way!
Here is a little bit of what we got up to. . .

Welcoming 2011

So i'm up bright and early tomorrow morning on a road trip!
I'm very excited about spending four days away with amazing friends and celebrating the pending new year

jiggling jelly joy!

So Christmas has been and gone for 2010! I feel like i haven't sat still in a few weeks, in between all of the Christmas parties, working, shopping and lets not forget the festive cooking season! below are this years creations

First up is the honey bread house! Made from scratch, om nom nom :)

I made the dough with the help of Rowie

we had a few honey explosions, but got there in the end!

After my hands recovered from the rolling out process came the decorating

So I have been a busy bee this week preparing for this Saturdays Christmas Market at the Harvest Textiles workroom I will be there along with Kirsty from So Little Time selling our laser cut wearables. As well as that I will be launching my first limited edition print for Pom by Pomegranate! The lovely girls from Harvest have organised a stall for their past students, it will be available on both calico bags and tea towels from there! Take a sneak peak below!

Of course Tilda was there trying to keep an eye on things!

I printed these on Sunday afternoon and the process was so much fun! I have the next one in mind and I can't wait to see it come to life

So i've never really had a new years resolution, well never one that i've thought that hard about, nor one that's lasted. So why start now? this isn't a new years resolution but it's a new outlook on life-resolution, something that I hope will remind me of the life discoveries I have made recently and something I hope will help me to continue making them.

This is it. . . 365.
365 days, 365 thoughts, quotes, patterns, drawings, letters, colours, or whatever I come across on that particular day.
A huge challenge, and one that I hope to stick to! It's not a new year resolution, because they never last, and because it begins today December the 9th! It's a life resolution which i'm very excited about.

Now that I have told all of you about it I'm going to have to stick to it, aren't I?

Step and Repeat

So today was the second half of my screen printing course at the Harvest Workroom and i'm addicted!

This is a photo of the front half of the Harvest Workroom as promised, and it just doesn't do it justice! I do love the lights though, such a fantastic and loose look!

I stared the day by layering some crimson red pomegranates ontop of last weeks prints

Then we learnt how to design repeat patterns which I am still super stoked about

My wrist is still recovering from cutting this crazy pattern out

Stencil cutting was followed by the step and repeat printing technique, and It worked! Yaaayyy

I look forward to getting my own screen and of course signing up for the advanced class, where you learn 3 colour repeats, bring it!

So I have recently located some new editions for my juice glass collection!
I found these little gems tucked away and extremely dusty in the back of a cabinet at a local antiques store, It was my first time in there and seriously, you could look in there for days! there are so many little alcoves, the floor changes height and material several times and things are stacked up to the ceiling! I walked out with these two looking a little worse for ware, I cleaned them up aaaannnnd

WALAH!

My mum ( I love how committed she is to my random collection!) also managed to find this decanter which matches the little orange glass she picked up for me in New South Wales! How exciting, I look forward to a sunny breakfast drinking juice with these little ones!

The collection is coming along so well, but I can't wait to add to it!

Christmas trees and Post-its?

As a blog reader i've noticed that christmas is in the air, it was a little premature in my eyes, but seen as it is ALMOST December I thought I could contribute to the festivities! Particuarly because making things and craft is usually involved with Christmas, and to me that's the most exciting bit!

Since Tilda has entered the household many things have had to change, now when searching for shoes, you look up not down. The rule is that pretty much anything which is on or near the floor is free for the taking! It is generally taken and collected in my bedroom, my shagpile rug is the place to be apparently.

So a Christmas tree is pretty much out of the question this year! While reading yesterday I found this great Idea here

What a great Idea, I think I might give it a try, and write little messages on the post its!

My friend Kirsty is going to give this little one a go! I can't wait to see how it turns out :)

Printing and Tea at the Harvest Workroom

So today was the first day of my screen printing course and it was amazing!
I was lucky enough to be in the first class held in the new Harvest workroom, which is beautiful, the space had such a great and relaxing feel about it! maybe it was because of my first impression was being greeted with a smile and offered a cup of tea, a perfect way to start a relaxingly creative day.

I didn't get any photos of the front of the workroom, which was lovely, so I will be sure to get some next week! This is the back and the printing studio below

A great and functional wash up area makes all the difference

So we began the class by having a cup of tea a chat and sketching shapes from Australian native wild flowers

Then came the stencil making

and finally after 5 hours of preparation the Printing!!!

We have oh so much to do tonight before the Launch tomorrow, which is at Craft Hatch, a market run by Craft Victoria. This month it will be held at the Melbourne City Library, 253 Flinders Lane in Melbourne, from 11am - 4pm, we would love it if you stopped by!

So last night i spent 4 hours stiring, waiting, warming, cooling and carefully pouring. . . in hope of making something that looks even half as amazing as this.

I have no idea if it has worked, and will not know until I take it out of the tin at the party tonight, so i'm either going to be left with something spectacular or a giant pile of jiggling failure. . .

Meet Tilda

I mentioned a little while ago that I was heading interstate on some secret cute and fluffy business. Well she's here now and all settled in.

I would like you to meet Tilda.

For those of you who have had or have a pet would understand that they can add to your life emensly. For sure they're a lot of work - particularly when they're young - but to me the rewards make it all undoubtedly worth while.

Each day I am constantly entertained by her excitement for life. She explores and pounces on everything including our older dog Lillie, and has SO much fun doing it. They're always smiling, don't hold grudges and are full of pure joy - I think humans can and should learn a lot from dogs.

I have enrolled in a two day screen printing course at Harvest Textiles in Melbourne next month and i'm very excited about it!

I've always had a thing for patterns, as well as drawing miscelanious shapes I can't wait to learn how to repeat my patterns and then print them on fabric, eeep! :)
